Lynne Gbodjrou Kouassi (*1991) is a Swiss-based visual artist working across installation, performance, and (together with her partner) video. She holds a BA in Fine Art with distinction from the University of the Arts Zurich (ZHdK) and an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her practice engages questions of institutional power, identity, vulnerability and care, often in direct dialogue with the spaces and structures that frame art. A recurring thread in her work is a critical interrogation of the white norm: for the 2019 group exhibition of color at the Helmhaus Zürich, she painted the institution’s signature white floors purple. In 2026, the Helmhaus hosted her first major solo exhibition, salbung [anointing], in which she permanently repainted all six floors lilac — secured by a formal agreement with management — and extended the inquiry across rooms into marginalization, the body, and institutional power through textile, video, and installation. Kouassi has participated in residencies at Muzeum Susch, Atelier Mondial, and CCI Fabrika, and received grants including the Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt, the Recherchestipendium Basel-Stadt and the Auslandatelier Stipendium der Stadt Zürich. She lives and works in Basel.
